New footage from The Ribbon – our mixed-use development at the corner of Oxford Street and Wells Street in London’s West End – shows innovative construction methods as well as a palette of materials inspired by the context.
George Wells, after whom the street is named, was a brickmaker who worked in the area during the 1600s. A more recent building – The Pantheon – stands opposite our site, famed for its black granite stone façade and Robert Lutyens’ standardised system of storefront elevations. In response, our building pairs red brick with a monotone mortar to accentuate the sculptural form of the façade. By opting for prefabricated modules, the brickwork has been assembled on site in just weeks instead of months.
Thank you to the team and the numerous dedicated collaborators who are making the project possible.
