Joe joined Orms in 2023 following his education at the University of Bath and the Bartlett School of Architecture at UCL. His previous experience includes positions at Designscape Architects in Bath, Grainge Architects in Exeter and Esmond Murray Architects in Bath, where he worked across residential, education, commercial, energy and infrastructure sectors. At Orms, Joe is working on 75 London Wall, a deep retrofit of a central London office focusing on sustainability and wellbeing, where he leads the roof and fire packages while coordinating with consultants and manufacturers.
What does ultrapractical mean to you? Ultrapractical architecture means a way of building which serves the needs of today whilst remaining malleable to the requirements of future generations. I enjoy taking this approach on retrofit projects like 75 London Wall, where we sensitively futureproof existing buildings through new public offerings, external landscaping, and other interventions which allow the building to serve the changing needs of the modern workplace. Being ultrapractical requires both vision and attention to detail - creating spaces that work beautifully while addressing the ever more complex challenges of the modern city.
