Annabel joined Orms in 2023 as a Part II Architectural Assistant, bringing international experience from New Zealand. A Victoria University of Wellington graduate, her undergraduate work focused on civic design frameworks that maintain cultural and spatial differentiation within urban contexts, exploring how architecture facilitates a meaningful sense of place.
At Orms, Annabel has led façade packages on 75 London Wall from design development through to detailing. Her previous experience spans masterplanning, residential and education projects, providing diverse skills across multiple sectors that inform her approach to sustainable retrofit and adaptive reuse challenges.
What does ultrapractical mean to you? Ultrapractical architecture emerges when theoretical understanding meets real-world application. Working on retrofit projects at Orms has demonstrated how thoughtful interventions can transform existing buildings, extending their lifespan while reducing environmental impact. I believe architecture should respond to both immediate practical needs and broader cultural contexts, creating spaces that function efficiently while fostering connection and identity. By balancing technical requirements with human experience, we can develop solutions that are innovative yet grounded in practical reality.
