At Orms, we are committed to driving sector transformation through the UK Net Zero Carbon Building Standard (UK NZCBS). We have been involved through staff secondment during the standard's development, sponsorship support and by committing four projects to piloting the framework.
Through this hands-on experience, we have developed practical insights into the challenges practitioners might face when applying the standard, particularly around area-weighted calculations for complex developments.
Introducing Our Open-Source Calculation Tool
To support wider industry adoption, we've created a streamlined spreadsheet tool that simplifies area-weighted limit calculations for both Upfront Carbon and Energy Use Intensity. The tool is specifically designed to handle the complexities of real-world projects, including mixed-use developments and hybrid schemes combining new construction with retrofit elements.
This tool emerged from our benchmarking experience, where we identified a need for clear guidance for project teams when applying the standard's metrics to mixed use buildings.
Collaborative Development
In the spirit of the UK NZCBS collaborative ethos, we're making this tool freely available to the industry. We believe that shared resources and collective learning are essential for achieving the widespread adoption needed to meet our climate targets.
We welcome feedback, suggestions for improvements, and reports of any issues you encounter. Your input will help us refine the tool and ensure it serves the diverse needs of the industry.
