Brant You

Architectural Assistant

BArch (Hons)

Brant joined Orms in 2025 after graduating with First Class Honours from the Bartlett School of Architecture, where he won the Retrofit Prize. As Head of Events at the Bartlett Architecture Society, he organised talks, workshops and the annual Bartlett Ball. He brings hands-on experience from Studio DERA, contributing to the construction of a CobBauge structure for the National Trust, and from Bureau de Change Architects, where he reformatted the studio’s website and supported projects in London and Athens. He also volunteers as a guide at the Cosmic House Museum. With a strong interest in architectural history, heritage and adaptive reuse, Brant focuses on retrofit strategies and how buildings connect with people and place. His skills in making, collaboration and contextual research underpin his approach to design.

What does ultrapractical mean to you? For me, being ultrapractical is about uniting the craft of making with the possibilities of digital design. Working hands-on with earth and timber taught me that sustainable architecture starts with an honest understanding of materials. I see retrofit-first thinking as a way to extend the life of buildings while creating spaces that feel engaging and meaningful for the people who use them. Ultrapractical goes beyond technical resolution; it is about anticipating future needs while shaping environments that support everyday life. At Orms, I see ultrapractical as a balance of care and pragmatism, where sustainable ambition, human experience and the craftsperson’s wisdom come together to create architecture that lasts and gives back.
