Orms has secured planning permission for the major refurbishment of the existing post office building at 160 Old Street (previously 148), London EC1, on behalf of Great Portland Estates plc.
The new design will see the building being stripped back to the structural frame and redressed with a new façade of glazed white brick and engineering brick. The entrance will be reconfigured and extended, creating a new pavilion along Bunhill Row, significantly improving the public realm with retail units and active street frontages.
The lower levels, currently a car park and back of house spaces, will be converted into dynamic new office volumes with access to inner landscaped courtyards. A series of rooftop extensions, roof terraces and green roofs will also be added to create green spaces in an urban setting with an environmental target of BREEAM Excellent.back to news
